Abstract

Density and dynamics viscosity are important physical properties of a liquid. The density and viscosity of vegetable oils are correlated to number of carbon atoms, number of double bond(s) and temperature. In this work, an empirical approach for estimation density and dynamics viscosity of vegetable oils can be estimated by using saponification number (SN) and iodine value (IV). Data available in literatures are used to validate, and support the speculations derived from the proposed equation. The proposed equations are easy to use and the estimated density and dynamics viscosity values of vegetable oils at different temperatures agree well with the literature values. The average absolute deviation of density and dynamic viscosity of vegetable oils at 283.15-413.15 K are 0.23 and 7.57 %, respectively. The density and dynamics viscosity outside temperature between 283.15 and 413.15 K may be estimated by this model but accuracy may be lower.
