Abstract

This study aimed to study the cost of rice production and develop the guidelines to decrease the cost of jasmine rice 105 productions in Hindad Sub-District, Huay-Talang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province by using participatory process. The quantitative research and participatory action research were used for this study. A purposive sampling was used to collect sample groups of jasmine rice cultivators and other stakeholders in Hindad Sub-District area. The questionnaire, in-depth interview and focus group were used as a tool for collecting the data. Descriptive statistics and content analysis were used for data analysis. The findings showed that the cost in rice production in the crop year of 2015/2016, 76.0% in total cost came from the variable cost, which comprised of rice seeds, agricultural vehicles, fertilizer and labor, as well as 24.0% in total cost came from the fixed cost, which almost being land rent cost. For the method of cost reduction of rice production, the study finding found that the cost reduction of rice production consisted of the important methods as follows: 1) farmers should select high quality seeds to optimize proportion of breed 2) they should plant legumes such as Crotalaria that would be naturally added a variety of mineral to the soil and reducing in the fertilizer use 3) they should use the fertilizer at the reasonable rate and should be confederated to produce the fertilizer for own use or confederated to provide the producing factors 4) farmers should confederate to bargain about hiring a rice harvester or managing a campaign for bringing the traditional way of life to be used again such as “Long Kaek” 5) farmers should be supported to record farm accounting by using various strategies such as rewarding and creating the account form to facilitate the farmers.
