Role of Structural Flexibility of Manufacturing as Mediating Variable of Relationships between Environment Uncertainty with Customer Responsiveness and Firm Performance in Automotive Industry of Thailand / บทบาทของความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตในฐานะตัวแปรคั่นกลางระหว่างความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อมกับการตอบสนองความต้องการของลูกค้าและผลการดำเนินงานของบริษัทในอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ของประเทศไทย

งานวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาบทบาทของความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิต ในการเป็นตัวแปรคั่นกลางระหว่าง
ความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อมกับการตอบสนองความต้องการของลูกค้าและผลการดำเนินงานของบริษัท 2) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบผล
การดำเนินงานระหว่างบริษัทที่มีความ “สอดคล้อง” (มีความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตสอดคล้องกับความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อม) กับบริษัทที่ “ไม่สอดคล้อง” และเปรียบเทียบผลการดำเนินงานระหว่างบริษัทที่มีความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตระดับสูงกับบริษัทที่มีความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตระดับต่ำ และ 3) เพื่อศึกษาการใช้ความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตรับมือกับความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อม กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ บริษัทในกลุ่มอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ของประเทศไทย จำนวน 317 บริษัท
การวิเคราะห์ใช้โมเดลสมการโครงสร้าง (SEM) ด้วยโปรแกรม LISREL การวิเคราะห์ใช้สถิติ t-test และวิเคราะห์เชิงคุณภาพด้วยวิธีการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ ดังนี้ 1) ความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตเป็นตัวแปรคั่นกลางระหว่างความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อมกับ
การตอบสนองความต้องการของลูกค้า 2) บริษัทผู้ผลิตไม่มีความจำเป็นที่จะต้องมีความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างการผลิตในระดับสูงเสมอไป
แต่จะต้องมีระดับความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิตในระดับที่สอดคล้องกับความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อมจึงจะมีผลการดำเนินงานที่ดี และ 3) การจัดการโซ่อุปทานเป็นรากฐานของความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิต ผลการวิจัยนี้ทำให้เกิดความกระจ่างในความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความไม่แน่นอนของสภาพแวดล้อมกับการตอบสนองความต้องการของลูกค้าที่ยังมีความคลุมเครืออยู่ และทำให้มีแนวทางที่ชัดเจนในเชิง
การปฏิบัติเพื่อให้เกิดความยืดหยุ่นเชิงโครงสร้างในการผลิต

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the role of structural flexibility of manufacturing as mediating variable between environment uncertainty with customer responsiveness and firm performance, 2) to compare the firm performance between the firms that have a strong fit between structural flexibility of manufacturing and environment uncertainties, and the firms that have a  misfit of the two variables; and to compare the firm performance between high structural flexibility manufacturers and low structural flexibility manufacturers; and 3) to study how to use the structural flexibility of manufacturing to cope with the environment uncertainties. The sample consisted of 317 manufacturers. LISREL and t-test were used to analyze the quantitative data. Content analysis was employed to analyze the qualitative data. The research results were as follows: 1) Structural flexibility of manufacturing can be mediating variable between environmental uncertainty and customer responsiveness; 2) It is not necessary that the manufacturers must have a high level of structural flexibility of manufacturing. Instead, any structural flexibility of manufacturing should be fit with environmental uncertainties, which would rather lead to better firm performance; and 3) Management of a supply chain is a foundation of structural flexibility of manufacturing. This research clarified the obscure nature of the relations between environmental uncertainties and responsiveness to customers’ needs and provided clear practical guidelines for structural flexibility of manufacturing.
